Desperately Seeking Chainsaw is a 13-minute horror comedy inspired by the chaotic energy of The Evil Dead.
A couple of Octobers ago I built a chainsaw prop for Halloween.
That somehow escalated into a 15-minute horror comedy, shot on an iPhone, inspired by Evil Dead II.

If you’re curious how a Halloween costume spiraled into a small movie project, read on:
In October 2024 I decided to attend a Halloween street fest as Ash from Evil Dead.
Obviously this required a chainsaw hand.
Three weeks and $300 later I had this sucker:
Here’s me as Ash showing off my deadly appendage:
Halloween ended, but you can’t just put a $300 fake chainsaw in a closet and pretend it never happened.
So I made the logical decision:
Spend more time.
Spend more money.
Spend significantly more money.
That’s how my Evil Dead II–inspired comedy short Desperately Seeking Chainsaw was born.
I recruited some friends and family members to help bring the weirdness to life, and they all jumped in with impressive enthusiasm.
My niece was especially eager for the chance to saw her dad in half with a fake chainsaw.

I learned a lot and had a great time paying tribute to one of my favorite horror movies.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this ridiculous project happen.
Big shout out to my longtime pal / filmmaker Richard A. Reiter, whose camera work and advice made the short more Sam Raimi-like.
If you have 15 minutes and a tolerance for low-budget horror comedy, I think you’ll enjoy it.
Thanks for checking it out.
Hail to the King, Baby!
